Linda Hurkmans, Artistic Director, continues the tradition of presenting a professional performance of one of the world’s favorite holiday traditions. San José Dance Theatre presented the first The Nutcracker in Silicon Valley in 1966 under the direction of founders Paul E. Curtis Jr. and Shawn Stuart. A former student of Curtis and Stuart, Linda Hurkmans keeps their vision alive today and as she takes San José Dance Theatre into the future.
San José Dance Theatre presents San José’s only production of The Nutcracker that has a live orchestra for every performance. We are honored to continue our partnership with the Cambrian Symphony under the direction of the talented Scott Krijnen. Gracing the stage will be San Francisco Ballet soloist and principal dancers, Sasha De Sola and Tiit Helimets, reprising their role as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier. It is a privilege to partner with so many talented artist!
The Nutcracker is a family event. With a Christmas tree that grows to over 200 feet, little soldiers who defeat the evil Mouse King, and snowflakes that waltz through a moonlit forest, there is sure to be something for the entire family to enjoy!
Congratulations to all of the dancers who auditioned for this year’s show.
