Dancer of the Month – January 2019

San Jose Dance Theatre Student of the Month:
Chelsea DeGrande

Chelsea is currently 14 years old and is a level 6 student at San Jose Dance Theatre. Aside from dance, she enjoys spending time with her friends, hiking, and going to the beach. As a freshman in high school, it can be very challenging to keep up with school and a heavy dance schedule, but Chelsea works hard to do so. At school, her favorite subjects are multimedia journalism, Spanish 2, and Honors English.

Along with dancing, Chelsea loves her friends at SJDT and appreciates the support they all give each other. She loves the difficult training and appreciates how much the Artistic Director Miss Linda and the other teachers have helped her grow and regain her passion for dance since first coming to SJDT. She also loves the amazing Pas de Deux classes that SJDT offers, and how fun and challenging they are. One of her favorite parts about SJDT is performing, especially in the Nutcracker, which she has danced in 4 times so far. She has been a party girl, reindeer, Russian attendant, snowflake, columbine doll, Chinese acrobat, flower, and in 2018, she had the opportunity to dance as Clara, her favorite role ever. Last summer, Chelsea attended Oregon Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive in Portland and hopes for the opportunity to dance at another professional company this summer, as well as SJDT’s summer intensive.
