Dancer of the Month – May 2019

San Jose Dance Theatre Student of the Month:
Pilar Mellon-Reyes

Pilar is 18 years old, her favorite roles with SJDT have been Columbine Doll in SJDT’s “The Nutcracker” and the “Paquita” Variation solo she is rehearsing now which audiences can enjoy in the upcoming SJDT Spring Showcase, “The Firebird – Classical meets Contemporary”, May 25 at the Hammer Theatre Center, San Jose. Pilar says:
 
 “I love attending SJDT because of how challenging and precise the training is and because we have so many opportunities to perform. I like that the teachers focus on each student individually to help us with all of our specific corrections so we can improve quickly.” 
Besides dancing, her hobbies include skateboarding and going to concerts. At school she enjoys social studies and French. 
 
Pilar recently presented her self-choreographed contemporary solo at Jump Dance Competition for which she received a high gold award. This fall she will pursue a BFA in Dance with a focus in Choreography, attending Marymount Manhattan College on both dance merit and academic merit scholarships.
