2019 Spring Performance –  The Firebird: Classical Meets Contemporary

San Jose Dance Theatre premiered The Firebird on May 25, 2019, which is based on the classic Russian Fairytale brought to life through Stravinsky’s famous score with world premiere of original choreography by Linda Hurkmans. This repertory program also featured Petipa’s classic ballet, Paquita, with guest artists David Fonnegra and Mariana Zschoerper as well as original classical and contemporary dance.

Santana Row Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Each November, San Jose Dance Theatre is invited to perform as the main event of the Santana Row Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. We take part in the performance on the main stage in Santana Row Park during the tree lighting ceremony. San Francisco Movement Arts Festival

Since its inception in 2016, the San Francisco Movement Arts Festival has been promoting local movement arts in the San Francisco Bay Area. San José Dance Theatre is one of many esteemed organizations featured, showcasing its talented ballet dancers. The organizers, BayAreaDanceWatch is celebrating four main areas of movement arts: Dance, Theater, Music & Visual Art.

Spring Repertory Performances 

Spring Performances have been at the California Theatre in collaboration with the Margaret Wingrove Dance Company, at the Foothill College Smithwick Theatre, in collaboration with Foothill College, and at The Hammer Theatre in collaboration with San Jose State University. 

Past performances have included “Judy’s Song” choreographed for San Jose Dance Theatre by Margaret Wingrove, “Swan Lake Pas de Trois”, “White Swan Pas De Deux”, “For Little Swans”, “Paquita Grand Pas Classique” guest starring Jake Casey from Cincinnati Ballet, “Pas de Quatre”, “Le Corsaire” and original pieces of choreography by Sian Ferguson, formerly with Paul Taylor Company, Adolfo Marazita, and Linda Hurkmans. Pre-Ballet through Level 6 performs in the Spring Performance

Summer Intensive In-Studio Showings

Summer Intensive In-Studio Showings occur at the end of our Summer Intensive Program to show family and friends the progress made by all students.

Level 3 through Level 6 students perform in the showing if they have attended the entire Summer Intensive.

The sjDANCECO Festival

San Jose Dance Theatre has the honor of performing on the professional hour at the sjDANCEco Festival on Santana Row. The dance festival is a showcase of the wealth and diversity of South Bay dance artists. The festival is a great opportunity for dance companies, choreographers, studios, performing groups, and cultural organizations to demonstrate their talent and promote their ballet school.

Over the years we have performed White Swan Pas de Deux, La Bayadere, and other original works.

Montalvo Arts Center 

San Jose Dance Theatre performed a short (Act 2 version) demonstration of The Nutcracker at the The Montalvo Arts Center. The performance included a lecture-demonstration about what goes on behind the scenes to create one of the most beloved Nutcrackers in San Jose.

Zohar Performance Series:2

This is an “elegant and intimate evening as we get up close and personal with exceptionally talented classical and contemporary artists, get a first look at some of their newest work, and discover where to see them next,” held at the Zohar studios in Mountain View. 

San Jose Dance Theatre has performed three times at the Zohar Performance Arts Series: excerpts from “The Nutcracker” and Linda Hurkmans’ “The Firebird”, Youth America Grand Prix solos and pas de deux, as well as original choreography.

The Noon Arts Series 

The Noon Arts Series at The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph in San Jose.

The Artistic Director discussed, and dancers demonstrated the basics and importance of training, rehearsing, and conditioning. Topics included pointe shoes and tutus construction as well as the layers of details and preparation leading to great performances. They also traced the history of ballet and SJDT advanced dancers illustrated scenes from established ballet programs.
