Dancer of the Month – October 2017

San José Dance Theatre graduate: Julienne Ramskov.

Julienne started out as an avid gymnast and she also enjoyed running. Julienne had to work very hard to improve her flexibility, turn out, straighten her legs, keep her shoulders down, and learn choreography quickly. She worked humbly and diligently to improve herself and rose through the ranks playing such roles as Party Boy, Cookie (3 times!), Reindeer, and on to roles like Snowflake, Waltz of the Flowers Corps, and then Clara, Spanish, Dew Drop Fairy, and the Snow Queen.

Julienne continued training under Linda Hurkmans at San Jose Dance Theatre and attended the Kirov Academy of Ballet, Washington D.C. for Summer Intensives. The director of the Kirov took a keen interest in Julienne and offered her a scholarship to the year round program. Though still in highschool, we consider Julienne a graduate of SJDT and an example of what our strong training and performing opportunities can do for students. Julienne will complete her highschool at the Kirov and pursue her dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer. We wish her all the best!
