SAN JOSE DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS LA BAYADERE
San Jose Dance Theatre presents its 2018 Spring Showcase, a repertory performance featuring the Kingdom of the Shades scene from the ballet La Bayadére, plus original contemporary works!
Set in India, La Bayadère tells the story of star-crossed lovers who reunite in the afterlife in the Kingdom Of The Shades. Originally staged by famous choreographer Marius Petipa, this excerpt is one of the most celebrated in classical ballet and often performed independently of the full-length work.
To perform the lead roles in the Kingdom Of The Shades, we welcome professional dancers Fredrick Davis from “From the Streets to the Stage: The Journey of Fredrick Davis” documentary, and Lilit Hogtanian of Memphis Ballet.
The 2018 Spring Showcase also features San Jose Dance Theatre dancers in works choreographed by Artistic Director Linda Hurkmans, Jake Casey, Sian Ferguson, Grace Lu, and Irina Tomushev.
Lilit Hogtanian, Ballet Soloist, Ballet Memphis
Lilit Hogtanian is from Los Angeles where she began her ballet training under Yuri Grigoriev. She joined Ballet Memphis in 2017. She is a graduate of the Academie de Danse Princesse Grace in Monaco.
In 2009 the Los Angeles Times featured her in “Faces to Watch.” Miss Hogtanian has worked with Los Angeles Ballet, State Street Ballet, Eglesvsky Ballet and the Dance Theatre of Harlem. She has performed principal and soloist roles in numerous ballets including The Nutcracker, Pas de Trois (Minkus), Dov’e la Luna, Alice in Wonderland, Swan Lake, La Sylphide and Coming Together.
Miss Hogtanian is very excited to be guest starring for San Jose Dance Theatre for the first time. She will be dancing the principal female role of “Nikiya” in “La Baydère Kingdom of the Shades”.
